Louisville’s Greatest Streetwear Market This Saturday

Supporting small businesses while building a coalition for collaboration

(Louisville, KY) Over Tuft Rugs presents Louisville’s Greatest Streetwear. It takes place on Saturday, November 15th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the First Gethsemane gym located at 1159 Algonquin Pkwy.

The day will be filled with guest speakers, giveaways, contests and of course thirty (30) plus of vendors. This free event gives businesses an opportunity to display their brand while garnering community support. There will be plenty of food, good music, and nothing but positive vibes and purpose.

Even though the event is free, we want to give back so we are asking guests to bring a toy donation so we can bless unprivileged children in this community.

We are giving back to the same community that we work, sleep, and play in each day. To see people struggling and we know we can help that is our goal.

We need your support and hope you can come out and celebrate the entrepreneurs in our community. Organizers say this is bigger than fashion. It is about community, unity and giving back.

Media: We invite you to come out and cover the event. For more information contact Dejon Parker at 502-676-9707.

A Kentucky woman creates a selection of wines in honor of her late husband

A KENTUCKY WOMAN CREATES A SELECTION OF WINES IN HONOR OF HER LATE HUSBAND

Wineing Widows secures nearly two dozen Kentucky retailers to sell their wine in their stores

Louisville, Ky- September 11, 2025 — With the uncertainty of tariffs and how many businesses work to stay open Sheryl Woods, an entrepreneur, known for being a part of some of the biggest concerts and events steps out on faith to add owner and founder of The Wineing Widows LLC brands to her portfolio.

Woods established the brand in 2022.  The name came from her resilience after getting the title she never planned to have at 30 years old.  Her late husband Staff Sergent Curtis Woods passed away in April 1997 after being married 11 years.

Woods says ‘I got married at 19 years old and at 30 I became a widow. I was left to raise three young sons. For years, I grieved but I knew I wanted to leave a legacy for my family and something in his honor.”

Today, there are eight wines with one being a special edition.  They are Redbellious, White Wings, Black Cherry, Razzle Dazzle Raspberry, Marvelous Moscato, Serenity, and Sweet Roja.  The special edition ‘Hollywood’ will be released in the final quarter of 2025.  The names have a special meaning that Woods can explain during the interview.

Woods says “I always knew I would do this, but it is all about the timing.  My sons are grown and have families of their own.  I knew it was time to turn these tears to wine. While celebrating every goal large or small.  Life is too short to keep watching from the sidelines when I know business and what it takes to be successful.”

In less than six months, Woods has secured nearly two dozen suppliers who will sell her spirits.  The following retailers carry Wines By Wineing Widows:

  • Louisville Liquor Palace, 5013 Poplar Level Road
  • Skyway Beverage Shoppe, 2216 Hikes Lanes
  • J-Town Liquors, 10316 Watterson Trail
  • Liquor Outlet, 3415 Breckenridge Lane
  • Capstone Liquors, 6101 Fegenbush Lane
  • Liquor Depot, 4808 Dixie Highway
  • Evergreen Liquors, 12017 Shelbyville Road
  • Evergreen Liquors, 127 N. 3rd Street, Bardstown, KY
  • Fine Spirits & More, 102 Corporate Drive, Lebanon, KY
  • Sixty Eight Liquors, 691 W. Main Street, Lebanon, KY
  • SIMM’s Cut Rate Liquors, 81 Hwy 289, Lebanon, KY

We just received confirmation that we will now be in Kroger stores. Follow our website for the release date.

Woods says, “I created this brand to celebrate all of the strong women out there that married their soulmate and then become a widow and was forced to become the sole leader in the family holding everyone up while privately trying to keep everything together.”

Initially, Woods could not find a local distribution to assist with securing vendors and in the Summer of 2025 Widows Vino Distribution was created and licensed to help other small businesses hoping to get their wine/spirits in area stores.

“I can now assist other small wine and spirit businesses get through the loopholes I faced to make the process a little smoother” says Woods.

Wineing Widows LLC and Widows Vino Distribution are located at 10476 Bluegrass Parkway in Louisville, KY.

The founder and creator of the MELANnaire Marketplace Nachand Trabue says “This was birthed out of love for community and to see other Black-owned businesses reach their ultimate potential.  We are literally sitting in a food desert, and no one is coming to the aide of the residents in the Smoketown and downtown residents.  We had an urgent need, so I contacted businesses and we all agreed that we needed to help ourselves instead of waiting on someone to help us.

Over this past year, we have had people from all over the city and surrounding communities come out and support us.  This is truly a community effort.  I just feel so blessed to be able to spearhead the initiative. I had no idea that when we started that the MELANnaire Marketplace would become so important in the community. That’s a testament for the need and the quality service our businesses bring to the table.”

We would like to thank all the Black-owned businesses, sponsors, and community leaders who have participated and supported us over the past year.  We look forward to the next year.

We currently have more than 30 local businesses participating on Saturday, September 4th:

We invite you to stop by and see what the entrepreneurs have to offer.

The VIPP Report: Remembering photojournalist Bud Dorsey

By Sherlene Shanklin, WHAS11 ABC Louisville

In today’s ‘Your Story’. Remembering famed photographer Bud Dorsey.  Who died last week at the age of 80. I spoke to Yvonne Coleman Bach, Associate Publisher and Editor who worked with him and called him a good friend.

He could tell a story without even saying a word.  Charles ‘Bud’ Dorsey got his start with the Louisville Defender Newspaper.  I spoke to Bach about the paper that’s been in existence for over 80 years and Dorsey’s impact.

Bach says “Bud was wonderful. I started working with Bud in the mid-1980’s.  What we try and do is bring that positive back and to let people know there’s a lot of positive things happening in the community.”

Dorsey somedays didn’t wait for an assignment.  He went where the news was happening.  Coleman-Bach says “Working with Bud was unreal because he made my job easier. He never let me down.  He was looking and watching for things to happened and he was always there.”

Coleman-Bach says Bud had that dedication and a strong love for what he was doing even when he had to go home and care for his small children alone.  She adds “One of the things people don’t know about Bud. He has four kids and his wife died at a very young at a very early age.  Left him with four kids the youngest one under a year old.”

Even with all of that going on he captured the essence and soul of the community.  Coleman-Bach says “He was out there for the civil rights marches, he was out there for the little league ball games he was out there for everything that was going on in the community and it showed that positive side.”   Helped create special bonds with Central High classmates like Muhammad Ali.  “The few times I was with Bud where Muhammad Ali is concerned. Every time he saw Bud, even when he couldn’t speak, when he saw Bud he would give some type of sign like oh there’s Bud.”

I asked Coleman-Bach about some of his best moments. Coleman-Bach says “I think the coverage he did on Ali and I have to go back and say too a second one is Louis Coleman.  Bud did some fabulous coverage with Louis Coleman. He went to different cities with him. Consistently following him and following the work he was doing.  Which is very important in the community.”

It wasn’t hard for Coleman-Bach to describe Dorsey as a father and photographer.  She says “Even when talking about his as a photographer or a dad he was absolutely amazing. /Coleman 4:16-24 Bud was able to capture the community, the West Louisville community like no one could and I don’t think anyone else will.”

In his own words, he wanted to make sure his work lived on.  Dorsey says “I want to try and leave a legacy for my grandkids and great grandkids. It’s a great place to be and a great place to live.”

I wanted to share with you a photo Dorsey took of me some 20 years ago.  I’ve kept it all these years.  I was speaking at the Louisville Black Expo to a group of students interested in television production.

There will be a community memorial service on Saturday where Bach will speak.  The service is from noon to two at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage at 17th and Ali.

The VIPP Report: Louisville restaurant named top 12 breakfasts in the country

teamsuperchefs and roger mooking

The Cooking Channel’s Man’s Greatest Food will tackle who has the greatest breakfasts in the country.  Of course, a Louisville restaurant is on that list especially when you reference anything that mentions the “GREATEST”.  Can you guess who’s on that list?  Host Roger Mooking chose “Superchefs” owned by Darnell “Superchef” Ferguson located at 1702 Bardstown Road right in the heart of the Highlands.

Mooking visited chefs all across the U.S. and went into their kitchens to learn about their top dishes and some of the secrets behind it.  The show did visit Superchefs and they ranked the restaurant on their 12 greatest breakfasts list.  Mooking was looking for the best combinations of eggs, gravy, breakfast meat and fried dough.  You could put a check mark next to each one of those criteria when it comes to Superchefs Louisville.

Ferguson says “What a way to start the year by being placed in this prestigious ranking for breakfast.  I won the Thanksgiving challenge in November of last year.  It just gives me the confidence that the restaurant caters to any taste bud you may have.  Stop by and tryout some of the fantastic items we have on the menu.  This is really shaping up to be a great year for myself and Team Superchefs”.

Man’s Greatest Food will air on the Cooking Channel, Tuesday, January 15th at 7:00 pm (EST).

If you would like to setup an interview and/or check for availability for engagements, contact Sherlene Shanklin with VIPP Communications at sshanklin@vippcommunications.com

The VIPP Report: Two more restaurants in Louisville have employees diagnosed with Hepatitis A virus

pexels-photo-356040.jpeg

Special from Sherlene Shanklin, WHAS11 Television, ABC Louisville

I just received notification that two more restaurants in Louisville have employees diagnosed with the Hepatitis A virus.  Domino’s  and Old Chicago’s Pizza.  Here’s some information from the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness:

An employee of Domino’s Pizza at 10000 Brownsboro Rd. and an employee of Old Chicago Pizza and Tap Room at 9013 Taylorsville Rd. have been diagnosed with acute hepatitis A.

Customers who ate at this Domino’s from April 15, 2018 to April 28, 2018 and customers who ate at this Old Chicago from April 21, 2018 to May 5, 2018 may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus.  While the risk of contracting hepatitis A from eating at either of these restaurants is low, the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is issuing this advisory out of an abundance of caution. The hepatitis A outbreak remains centered among the homeless and those who use drugs.

When a food service worker is diagnosed with hepatitis A, he or she is immediately excluded from work and not allowed to return without release from his or her medical provider.  Additionally, all employees at the establishment are vaccinated and disinfection and sanitation practices are followed. Domino’s scored 100 and 98-A on its last two health inspections. Old Chicago scored 96-A and 95-A on its last two health inspections.

Symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). People can become ill 15 to 50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.

Hepatitis A is usually transmitted by putting something in your mouth such as an object, food or drink, which has been in contact with the feces of an infected person. In November, the Kentucky Department for Public Health declared a statewide hepatitis A outbreak. Since the outbreak began there have been 327 cases diagnosed in Louisville and nearly 27,000 vaccinated.

To date, some 5,000 local food service employees have been vaccinated against hepatitis A.”

The best ways to prevent hepatitis A infection are to get vaccinated and to practice good handwashing. “Washing your hands thoroughly and often with warm water and soap, especially before preparing meals or eating, after using the bathroom or changing a diaper is a proven way to prevent the spread of diseases,” Dr. Caloia added. “Hand sanitizer is not as effective as hand washing against hepatitis A.”

For more information about hepatitis A visit https://louisvilleky.gov/government/health-wellness/hepatitis or call 211. Old Chicago Pizza and Tap Room customers with questions may also call the restaurant’s tollfree hotline at 1-844-944-0444.

The VIPP Report: Owner of Superchefs challenges community to feed a JCPS student

supercheflogo

CHEF DARNELL FERGUSON TAKING ON THE FOOD CHALLENGE ONE CITY AT A TIME

Darnell Superchef Ferguson(Louisville, KY) Darnell “Superchef” Ferguson learned that hunger doesn’t take a day off.  He had the opportunity to talk to the team of “Blessings in a Backpack” and they shared with him the staggering number of elementary children that need assistance when it comes to food, particularly on weekends within Jefferson County.

They serve 4,700 children at 43 schools in the Louisville Metro Area.  That’s impressive but that’s only 7% of the 64,000 who qualify.

Superchef is ready to take on the challenge and he will be calling on the community to help.  It takes approximately $100 to feed one child during a 38-week school year which does not include the summer break.

Darnell says “Can you imagine sitting at home on the weekend and not having enough food and you are counting down the time until you can get breakfast on Monday morning?  It’s hard and sad to imagine.  I know we as a community can make a difference in the lives of these children and I’m willing to lead the way.  We are not going to have a start date because these children needed food yesterday.”

The number continues to grow when it comes to Hepatitis A cases in Louisville, Kentucky.  An employee of the White Castle restaurant located at 3701 Seventh St. Rd. in Louisville has been diagnosed with an acute case.  Customers who ate at the restaurant from April 6 to April 20, 2018 may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus.

Here’s some of the symptoms: fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). People can become ill 15 to 50 days after being exposed to the virus. If you are experiencing symptoms you should seek medical attention.

The Kentucky Department for Public Health declared a statewide hepatitis A outbreak.  Since the outbreak began there have been 281 cases diagnosed in Louisville and more than 14,000 vaccinated.

White Castle will provide free hepatitis A vaccinations for their employees in the Louisville Metro area.

The cost of the hepatitis A vaccine has been reduced from $65 to $25.  Businesses with more than 20 employees can have a nurse come to their site to provide the immunizations.  Businesses with fewer than 20 employees may designate vaccine for their employees to be immunized at U of L’s walk-in clinic.

As of April 24th,  more than 50 local food service establishments have chosen to provide their employees the hepatitis A vaccine through this effort.
