Lincoln Foundation, in partnership with Dick Sisto, Ken Clay, and Owsley Brown III, present the 2^nd annual Lionel Hampton Tribute Concert Showcase. The concert takes place Friday, August 17^th at 7:30 pm at the Holy Trinity Clifton Campus Eifler Theatre (formerly the Clifton Center) located at 2117 Payne Street.

The fundraiser benefits Lincoln Foundation’s signature Whitney M. YOUNG Scholars Program®. The ultimate goal of the college prep program is to empower students for successful graduation from high school and college. Scholars have earned over 400 postsecondary degrees since 2000. Lincoln Foundation has empowered disadvantaged youth to overcome adversity through education since its inception by Berea College over 100 years ago. The mission of the organization is to provide educational enrichment programs that develop and support youth in overcoming barriers to achievement.

The Lionel Hampton Tribute Concert Showcase honors the late, great jazz musician and Louisville native Lionel Hampton. Born on April 20, 1908, Hampton popularized the vibraphone and was renowned for being an innovator, actor, pianist, showman, and entertainer. Hampton received countless awards and honors which included being recognized for his outstanding work in music by two standing presidents. Both President George H. W. Bush and President Bill Clinton honored the jazz icon.

Louisville’s own jazz legend, vibraphonist Dick Sisto, continues to keep Hampton’s legacy alive. Sisto will serve as the artistic and musical director for the showcase. A group of world-class artists will join Sisto including Jeremy Allen, double bass; Art Gore, drums; Walter Smith III, saxophone; Robert McCarther, vocals; and two-time Grammy Award winner, Kamau Kenyatta, piano. Four of the artists are also renowned professors of jazz at some of the country’s preeminent schools of music.

The evening begins with the presentation of the prestigious Spirit of Excellence Award. The award is annually given to a local individual who exemplifies an active commitment to education, human/community service, and leadership. The 2018 recipients are Steve and Amy Trager. Steve is the Chairman and CEO of Republic Bank, and Amy is a community leader and volunteer. Past recipients include Christina Lee Brown, Laura Douglas, Ed Hamilton, Mary Gwen Wheeler, Mayor Greg Fischer, Robert & Deborah Blair and Lonnie & the late Muhammad Ali.

The VIPP Report: An act of kindness can help two JCPS students go on a “Back to School” shopping spree

Anticipation begins to grow as students prepare to head back to school on August 15th. Some have anxiety because their parents have difficulties supporting their households. Purchasing anything extra right now puts a strain on their expenses. Do you know a Jefferson County Public School high school senior that continues to give back and considered a role model amongst their peers, family and friends even when they have no idea what the future holds for them and their family?

AFM Threads and the Stamina “AOK” Foundation team up to assist some students with their back to school needs. We are looking for two lucky high school seniors who would like the opportunity to receive clothing for school and prom apparel valued at $1,000 for their act(s) of kindness.

Seniors need to submit a letter and/or video 2 minutes or less explaining how they give back through community service. A committee will read the entries and determine the winners. Submit entries to: afmforher@gmail.com. The deadline is August 13, 2018 at 11:59 pm.

Winners of the contest will receive: two outfits for back to school, prom attire, lunch with Miss Kentucky and a mentor session with Stamina Foundation Founder Derek Anderson.

The VIPP Report: KCAAH will break ground on a memorial named in honor of a Kentucky native and the first African American colonel in the U.S. Army

You are invited to attend on Tuesday, July 31^st at 10:00 am, the ceremonial ground breaking of the Veteran Flag Memorial Project at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, (KCAAH) located at 1701 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd.

The Charles Young Veterans Memorial is the first project of the Freedom Flag Initiative. It works through Public-Private Partnerships to install American Flags throughout communities and states across the nation, and build memorials to honor our nation’s veterans.

The memorial will be named in honor of Colonel Charles Young. Col. Young was born a slave in 1864 in Mason County, Kentucky. He was one of the first African Americans to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point and actually the very first black colonel in the U.S. Army. He also served as a member of the 9^th Calvary also known as the Buffalo Soldiers. Young died in Liberia in 1922.

This project will officially announce the Veteran Flag Memorial Project created by the Region VI Commanders of the National Association for Black Veterans as an opportunity to unify people and communities by providing beautiful spaces to reflect on a symbol that can unify us all. Some of the speakers participating in the program will be Scott Matheny, President, Semper Tek, Inc. Shedrick Jones, Sr., NABVETS Region VI Commander, Hosea Mitchell, COO, KCAAH, Daniel Ware, EOP Architects John Carman, CEO, CARMAN Landscape Architects.

The unveiling of the Charles Young Veterans Memorial will be held on Veterans Day, November 11, 2018 at KCAAH.

HIP HOP ARTISTS GIVING BACK BY PERFORMING IN LOUISVILLE TO ASSIST FAMILIES NEEDING ASSISTANCE WITH GETTING BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES

(Louisville, KY) Back to school never sounded better when hip hop artist and Louisville native Dusty Leigh brings his vision to life. He asked a few friends to travel to Louisville to help collect school supplies for youth. With no hesitation the lineup was formed with some of the top names all performing on Dusty Leigh Day on Saturday, August 11^th at Diamonds Pub, 630 Barrett Ave starting at 8:00 p.m. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m.

The who’s who of hip-hop will perform. Here’s the lineup: Yung Joc, Bubba Sparxx, Murphy Lee, Nappy Roots and the Ying Yang Twins.

You won’t believe what the admission is for this packed lineup. It’s FREE with a school supply donation. If you don’t bring supplies, we are asking for a minimum donation of $10 so Leigh and his team of volunteers can go and purchase the items needed.

Dusty Leigh says “It’s an honor to have a day in my city but it was never all about me. It’s about giving back. I travel all over the world and open for some of the biggest artists but there’s no place like home. I see so many parents and guardians struggling to get the needed supplies for their child. I just want to do my part and I’m excited to have such a great support system and friends in the industry willing to take time out of their busy schedules to perform. This will be one of the top concerts of the summer. I hope you come out and support our efforts.”

It’s time to check in and see how the artists are doing that performed at this year’s Derby Soundstage 2018 in Louisville, KY. On Thursday, May 3^rd at Broadbent Arena hosted by Liv Suite. The had a dynamic trio of 2 Chainz, K. Michelle and Lil Wayne. Three unique chart topping sounds all under one roof. Let’s see what they have been up too since their Kentucky Derby show.

It’s definitely been a busy summer for rap artist 2 Chainz. Just days after the concert in Louisville, he attended the Met Gala and while on the Red Carpet he took to his knee to let the world know that he would marry his wife Kesha all over again by proposing. They have been married since 2013 and have three children. His new smash hit Bigger Than You features Drake and Quavo. 2 Chainz will be in London on July 14^th and his next U.S. concert will be on July 22^nd in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Michelle was in great spirits when she was in Louisville. She thanked the fans for their support while she was out recovering from two blood transfusions and several surgeries due to the removal of silicone injections. As she continues to recover, the R& B artist’s album Kimberly: The People I Used To Know continues to do well and her fans are excited to

see her on Love and Hip Hop. She’s teasing on her Instagram page that we need to watch on July 23^rd. I’m sure she’s getting a cast member all worked up and upset. We’ll have to wait and see.

And Lil Wayne closed the Louisville show and fans loved the live elements in his show by the drummer. This artist’s drive is in “Trukfit” mode. He’s working on a Fall release date for has a new album, Tha Carter V and he even signed two players to his Young Money Sports Management. One of his artist’s Drake released an album last week that has a song regarding the Louisville basketball scandal plus Drake used a couple of songs on

The VIPP Report: 2013 University of Louisville Men’s Basketball Team reunites for their 5 year anniversary

(Louisville, KY) They dominated the headlines as the underdog team with the hearts of champions. Eliminating team after team to reach the pinnacle in college basketball with a record of 31 wins and only six loses. Now, the members of the Cardinal team will gather for their five-year reunion and the team wants to celebrate with you, their fans.

On Friday, June 29^th, it’s Rise Above with the 2013 Basketball Championship 5^th Year Reunion Celebration at Fourth Street Live, 400 S. 4^th in downtown Louisville. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the celebration will begin at 6:00 pm. The evening will be filled with activities, giveaways and a meet and greet with the team. Fans will get a special treat because you will get to relive the 2013 championship game with the team. As you watch the game, you will get to ask players and staff in attendance what were they thinking and how surreal it was to win that championship game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on April 8, 2013.

The VIPP Report: 2nd Annual Sports & Motivation Youth Camp Series will be a part of Summerfest this weekend in Chickasaw Park

(Louisville, KY) On Saturday, June 23^rd in historic Chickasaw Park in West Louisville the community will gather for the 2^nd Annual Sports & Motivation Youth Camp Series. The camp begins at 9:00 am for youth ages 6 through 13. They must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

Youth will have a chance to meet legends in the sports realm as well as community leaders who will share their wisdom and skills. Professional trainers and instructors will be on hand to give youth an opportunity to learn proper techniques.

Members of the Louisville Bats will be on hand inspiring youth, doing a baseball clinic and giving away home game tickets so youth can take in one of their games. Youth in attendance will also get to hear from members of the West End Golf Tee Program. Wilbur Hackett Sr. and his son Wilbur Hackett Jr. will be in attendance talking about his historic journey as one of the first African American to play football in the SEC and the University of Kentucky. Jerry Ellis will be on hand to talk about his career as well as his late brother former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Jerry Ellis. During the camp Alice Houston and Shively Sporting Goods will be honored for their support to the camp and the community.

The Sports & Motivation Youth Camp Series is FREE but a parent and/or guardian needs to be present. You can register by texting 502-919-0757 or 502-776-1240. There will also be onsite registration. For the adults in attendance, Walmart will provide a $10 gift card for bringing your child to the event.

(Louisville, KY) Former University of Louisville and two-time Super Bowl champ and SB XXXIX MVP Deion Branch announces the date of his upcoming 9^th Annual Skills and Drills Camp in Louisville. The Deion Branch Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer support to children’s mental, physical, emotional wellbeing and for those who have been infected with meningitis. The VIPP Report: Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles will not visit the White House on Tuesday

The Philadelphia Eagles released a statement. It doesn’t recognize the cancellation of their Washington White House visit but it refers to those who have supported them and have celebrated their Super Bowl win.

The Mayor of Philadelphia reacts to the Eagles cancelled white house visit. See statement below:

“The Eagles call the birthplace of our democracy home, so it’s no surprise that this team embodies everything that makes our country and our city great. Their athletic accomplishments on the field led to an historic victory this year. Fans all across the country rallied behind them because we like to root for the underdog and we feel joy when we see the underdogs finally win. I’m equally proud of the Eagles’ activism off the field. These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation—a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.

“Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.

“City Hall is always open for a celebration.”

Still awaiting a response from the Eagles franchise and the NFL.

With less than a day before the NFL Super Bowl Champs travel to Washington to meet with President Donald Trump calls off the visit. It’s due to the dispute over NFL players and personnel and why they should stand instead of kneeling during the playing of the national anthem. Many of the players had decided not to attend prior to this release but a small group was going to Washington to represent the franchise.

In a statement released late today by the White House says ”the Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country. The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better. These fans are still invited to the White House to be part of a different type of ceremony—one that will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem. I will be there at 3:00 p.m. with the United States Marine Band and the United States Army Chorus to celebrate America.”

We have been awaiting a response from the Eagles and/or the NFL but at the time of the report they have not released a statement.

JUST IN: The visionary and iconic leader of Starbucks will bid his farewell after 40 years.

Here’s the news release that Starbucks just released.

SEATTLE (June 4, 2018) – Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ: SBUX) today announced that Howard Schultz is stepping down as executive chairman and member of the Board of Directors and will be honored with the title of chairman emeritus effective June 26, 2018.

During his four decades as ceo and chairman, Schultz grew Starbucks from 11 stores to more than 28,000 stores in 77 countries, while demonstrating that a business can simultaneously deliver best-in-class financial performance and share success with its people and the communities it serves.

Under Schultz’s leadership, Starbucks has delivered a 21,000% gain in the value of its stock price since its initial public offering in 1992. The company’s growth was fueled by his decisions to provide uncommon benefits for those who work for Starbucks, including comprehensive healthcare, stock ownership and free college tuition, even for those working part-time.

“I set out to build a company that my father, a blue-collar worker and World War II veteran, never had a chance to work for,” Schultz wrote in a letter addressed today to past and present Starbucks partners. “Together we’ve done that, and so much more, by balancing profitability and social conscience, compassion and rigor, and love and responsibility.”

Following his transition off the Starbucks board at the end of June, Schultz will oversee the opening of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Milan on Sept. 6 – marking the company’s long-awaited entry into Italy – and the New York Roastery in late October.

Starbucks also announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Myron E. “Mike” Ullman as its new chair of the Board and Mellody Hobson as vice chair of the Board effective upon Schultz’s retirement. Starbucks world-class, values-based board is comprised of accomplished leaders representing diversity and excellence in global technology, retail, consumer experience and other relevant skill sets.

“There are no words to fully express our gratitude to Howard for the extraordinary company he has built,” said ceo and member of the Board of Directors Kevin Johnson. “He’s helped Starbucks earn the respect of millions around the world by always being true to a higher calling, and always being bold in creating a better future. He’s taught all of us that it’s possible to be a very different kind of public company. That must, and will, continue on my watch.”

In Schultz’s letter to partners, he thanked them for their collective efforts to build a different kind of company. “Because of your creativity, your hard work, and the love that you have poured into the company, Starbucks today is widely embraced and respected. As I prepare to step away, I’d like to humbly remind you not to lose sight of what matters most: your fellow partners and our customers.”

He also expressed deep confidence in the team that will continue to lead the company. “Kevin Johnson is a true servant leader, and he will lead Starbucks as this great company enters its next journey. It’s our duty as leaders to constantly reimagine Starbucks. I am honored to call Kevin my friend and partner. And Starbucks is fortunate to have him. This leadership team is extraordinarily capable. (Louisville, KY) Inside the Lines Training, Inc. (ITL) will host their inaugural Cards vs Cats Golf Scramble on Monday, July 2^nd at the Nevel Meade Golf Course, 3123 Nevel Meade Drive, Prospect, KY.

The scramble will support programs to assist local youth athletes through education, leadership development and physical training. Their goal for the charity event is to raise $25K.

Registration begins at 7:30 am and the teams will tee-off at 9:00 am. To participate in the golf scramble the registration fee is $100 per person or $300 for a team of four. Space is limited so if you would like to play register by emailing Anthony Richardson at insidethelinestraining@gmail.com.

The following players have agreed to participate and/or send memorabilia for a silent auction presenting their teams. For the Cards it will be: Michael Bush, Tony Williams, Jamon Brown, Earl Heyman and Mario Urrutia.

The Cats who’ve agreed to participate are: Keenan Burton, Garry Williams, Alex Poythress, and John Wall (memorabilia). Additional names will be released in the coming weeks prior to the scramble.

Others also confirmed to participate is Mohamed Sanu and Ben Simmons (memorabilia).

Inside the Lines Training Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to enrich student athletes with tools to excel academically, while enhancing characteristics of leadership, responsibility and work ethic. MISS KENTUCKY’S OUTSTANDING TEEN PAGEANT CROWNS MISS WAYNE COUNTY AREA TO REPRESENT KENTUCKY IN THE MISS AMERICA’S OUTSTANDING TEEN PAGEANT

(Louisville, KY) Tonight, it’s the changing of the arms. A new queen is announced for the Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, (MKOTP) held at the Kentucky Center in downtown Louisville.

Twenty-two contestants representing the bluegrass being judged on talent, a private interview, lifestyle and fitness in sportswear, evening wear and on-stage question.

Tonight, Miss Wayne County Area Joanna Clark was crowned the winner. She will now go to the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Florida to represent Kentucky at the end of July.

Here’s the official standing: 1^st Runner-up Savannah Cooper; 2^nd Runner-up Reagan Earlywine; 3^rd Runner-up Haven Wolfe and 4^th Runner-up Claire Yates.

Dr. Ashley D. Anderson, Executive Director for the pageant and President of the Miss Kentucky board says “The judges had a very difficult time this year. There was so many talented ladies and all very deserving. Joanna Clark will represent Kentucky very well in the upcoming pageant. (Louisville, KY) The Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, (MKOTP) will take place on Saturday, May 26^th and Sunday, May 27^th at the Kentucky Center in downtown Louisville located at 501 W. Main Street. The official preliminary of the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Scholarship Organization will bring 22 contestants from across the Commonwealth. Contestants are scheduled to arrive in Louisville on Thursday. On Friday, they will participate in the interview portion of the pageant followed by tours of Churchill and the Kentucky Derby Museum. Then that night, they will enjoy a Louisville Bats Game.

On Saturday, May 26th is the beginning of the stage competition. At 12:00 pm, is the preliminary competition which will be conducted in front of an audience. Followed by a second round of preliminaries at 8:00 pm. On Sunday, May 27^th at 2:00 pm, the finalist will be announced and one young lady will be announced as this year’s Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen.

Each contestant will be judged on talent, a private interview, lifestyle and fitness in sportswear, evening wear and on-stage question.

Last year’s winner and current title holder Frankfort, KY native Abigail “Abby” Quammen will be attending the University of Alabama on a full tuition scholarship just for competing at the national pageant. The VIPP Report: Rev. Jesse Jackson is expected to attend Rev. C. Mackey Daniels funeral in Louisville

(Louisville, KY) Later today, Rev. Dr. C. Mackey Daniels will be laid to rest after being sick for the last few months according to a family spokesman. He peacefully passed away on Mother’s Day, May 13^th.

The pastor for more than 40 years of the West Chestnut Street Baptist Church leaves behind a daughter, four sons and three grandchildren. Rev. Daniels was the first black arbitrator to the courts of Jefferson County Kentucky Bar Association among many positions held throughout his life as a community and civil rights leader.

I understand his good friend and fellow civil right activist, Rev. Jesse Jackson of the Rainbow Coalition will travel to Louisville to be apart of the service. I do know that Rev. Jackson was arrested Monday, (May 21, 2018) just two days before Daniels funeral on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

Jackson said on his social media page after the arrest, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”- #DrMLKingJr.

So, I hope he’s able to get to Louisville in time for the funeral service.

Rev. Daniels’ funeral is at 11:00 am at the church followed by the burial at Cave Hill Cemetery. Rev. Dr. C. Mackey Daniels was 81.

Just days after his passing, 17th and Chestnut where the church is located was renamed Rev. C Mackey Daniels Way.

The VIPP Report: Comedian Eddie Griffin announces date of Louisville show

The actor/comedian will be in Louisville at the Brown Theatre on Saturday, July 21^st. In February, Showtime premiered his fifth stand-up special, Eddie Griffin: Undeniable and now fans can see him live on stage.

In 1990, Griffin took a dare to get up in front of an audience in a comedy club and do three minutes of stand up. Needless to say some 45 minutes later the choreographer for the Kansas City Chiefs half-time shows hung up his dance shoes and headed to Los Angeles with a one-way ticket to pursue his gift to make people laugh. Some 28 years later, Griffin continues to make people laugh on television and venues across the country.

The VIPP Report: AAU tournament lands in Louisville where basketball is king

It’s the “Battle of the Greatest” Amateur Athletic Union, (AAU) tournament held in Louisville, KY May 26^th through the 28^th at the Kentucky Expo Center, 911 Phillips Lane. The tournament is for boys and girls in grades 4^th through 11^th. Nationally ranked players and teams will travel to Louisville to participate under one roof with 20 courts.

Recruiters and teams will all have their eye on Team Breakdown based out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. All nine players have been offered Division 1 offers to play basketball at the collegiate level. Son of University of Kentucky and NBA star Jamal Mashburn Jr. plays on this squad and will be in Louisville for the tournament.

Coach Kenny Gillion says “Mashburn has offers from Louisville, Harvard and Florida State University” just to name a few of the schools recruiting the point guard. Gillion goes on to say that he’s proud of his whole team with the opportunity to further their education through basketball. This is a family affair because Gillion’s wife Diana is in charge of the Showtime Ballers. They will also play in the Louisville tournament.

Richard Ballard, Toney Frank and a group of Louisville entrepreneurs joined the team to bring the tournament to Louisville. They put the event at one location and packed it with activities that they whole family can enjoy. There will be an inflatable zone for basketball’s youngest fans. There will be a Paw Patrol and PJ Mask Day along with contests, giveaways, and selfies with your favorite character.

Frank says “To give the games a faster pace and high impact we have rallied together the city’s top DJ’s to play during the games.” Ballard also added that “There will be some special guests attending some of the games and we are excited that they are coming out to support us”.

The VIPP Report: Two more restaurants in Louisville have employees diagnosed with Hepatitis A virus

I just received notification that two more restaurants in Louisville have employees diagnosed with the Hepatitis A virus. Domino’s and Old Chicago’s Pizza. Here’s some information from the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness:

An employee of Domino’s Pizza at 10000 Brownsboro Rd. and an employee of Old Chicago Pizza and Tap Room at 9013 Taylorsville Rd. have been diagnosed with acute hepatitis A.

Customers who ate at this Domino’s from April 15, 2018 to April 28, 2018 and customers who ate at this Old Chicago from April 21, 2018 to May 5, 2018 may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus. While the risk of contracting hepatitis A from eating at either of these restaurants is low, the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness is issuing this advisory out of an abundance of caution. The hepatitis A outbreak remains centered among the homeless and those who use drugs.

When a food service worker is diagnosed with hepatitis A, he or she is immediately excluded from work and not allowed to return without release from his or her medical provider. Additionally, all employees at the establishment are vaccinated and disinfection and sanitation practices are followed. Domino’s scored 100 and 98-A on its last two health inspections. Old Chicago scored 96-A and 95-A on its last two health inspections.

Symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). People can become ill 15 to 50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.

Hepatitis A is usually transmitted by putting something in your mouth such as an object, food or drink, which has been in contact with the feces of an infected person. In November, the Kentucky Department for Public Health declared a statewide hepatitis A outbreak. Since the outbreak began there have been 327 cases diagnosed in Louisville and nearly 27,000 vaccinated.

To date, some 5,000 local food service employees have been vaccinated against hepatitis A.”

The best ways to prevent hepatitis A infection are to get vaccinated and to practice good handwashing. “Washing your hands thoroughly and often with warm water and soap, especially before preparing meals or eating, after using the bathroom or changing a diaper is a proven way to prevent the spread of diseases,” Dr. Caloia added. “Hand sanitizer is not as effective as hand washing against hepatitis A.”

The VIPP Report: Sheila E. in concert on the Louisville Waterfront

(Louisville, KY) Tonight, Sheila E. will be a part of the Kentucky Derby Festival Waterfront Jam.

The world-renowned drummer and percussionist known for hits like “Glamourous Life” and “A Love Bizarre” has performed with some of the greatest artists of our time from Prince, Marvin Gaye, Ringo Starr to Beyonce, Diana Ross and Lionel Richie.

The VIPP Report: Both Indiana and Kentucky announce a case of Hepatitis A

We just received notification that someone has Hepatitis A virus in the Louisville, KY area. Here’s the news release detailing the information.

“An employee of Bearno’s Pizza restaurant located at 9222 Westport Rd. has been diagnosed with acute Hepatitis A. As a result, customers who ate at the restaurant from April 8 to April 22, 2018 may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus.

Hepatitis A is usually transmitted by putting something in your mouth such as an object, food or drink, which has been in contact with the feces of an infected person. In November, the Kentucky Department for Public Health declared a statewide hepatitis A outbreak. Since the outbreak began there have been 294 cases diagnosed in Louisville and more than 16,000 vaccinated.

They have previously announced Music legend Stevie Wonder as the entertainment and the host for the evening is night talk show legend Arsenio Hall. It will be held on Friday, May 4^th in the Omni Hotel in downtown Louisville at 7:00 p.m. Their proceeds benefit the West End School and the University of Louisville Autism Center at Kosair Charities.

CHEF DARNELL FERGUSON TAKING ON THE FOOD CHALLENGE ONE CITY AT A TIME

(Louisville, KY) Darnell “Superchef” Ferguson learned that hunger doesn’t take a day off. He had the opportunity to talk to the team of “Blessings in a Backpack” and they shared with him the staggering number of elementary children that need assistance when it comes to food, particularly on weekends within Jefferson County.

They serve 4,700 children at 43 schools in the Louisville Metro Area. That’s impressive but that’s only 7% of the 64,000 who qualify.

Superchef is ready to take on the challenge and he will be calling on the community to help. It takes approximately $100 to feed one child during a 38-week school year which does not include the summer break.

Darnell says “Can you imagine sitting at home on the weekend and not having enough food and you are counting down the time until you can get breakfast on Monday morning? It’s hard and sad to imagine. I know we as a community can make a difference in the lives of these children and I’m willing to lead the way. We are not going to have a start date because these children needed food yesterday.”

Its Derby Hats Off to Education

(Louisville, KY) Before the world witnesses the Kentucky Derby winner getting their garland of roses, all eyes will be on the 33 high school seniors receiving their pink roses of congratulatory and nearly $63,000 in scholarships as they prepare for college in the Fall. Hortense B. Perry Foundation, Eta Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated of Louisville, Kentucky will host their 38^th Annual Scholarship Derby Brunch on Saturday, May 5^th at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Center located at 9700 Bluegrass Parkway starting at 10:00 am.

Some 1,100 people attend the brunch dressed in their Kentucky Derby attire as they enjoy a delicious brunch, a fashion show, and fantastic entertainment by singer Sheryl Rouse. There will be nearly 20 vendors in attendance. Some of the fashion show items are compliments of Paula’s Boutique Clothes, Hats & Jewelry and In Bloom Again Hats.

Even though this is a day of fun, the sorority members consider it a serious matter when it comes to education and academic excellence. So, over 1000 in attendance will celebrate the announcement of a total of $62,500 in scholarships will be awarded to 33 high school seniors. Forty-thousand dollars in scholarships, from the Hortense Perry Foundation and Henrietta Johnson Trust, will be awarded to 20 young ladies; $10,000 awarded to seven young ladies attending historically black colleges/universities; and awarded to 10,000 young ladies and gentlemen who participated in the sorority’s signature program, ASCEND, which is an after school educational enrichment program designed to support high school students to be successful, graduate, continue their education, and graduate from a college/university.

In just six years, they have awarded more than $305,000. It’s designed to assist future leaders in their academic journey on their collegiate road to success.

The VIPP Report: Oaks Day is the start of a Kentucky “Holiday” and LCCC welcomes the artist with the same name to kickoff the celebration

(Louisville, KY) Louisville Central Community Center, (LCCC) in collaboration with VIPP Communications announces their inaugural Kentucky Derby event. On Friday, May 4^th from 10 am to 2 pm at Old Walnut Street, 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd, it’s the Oaks Day Derby Brunch. This year’s theme: Songs in the Key of Life, a Stevie Wonder Tribute starring R & B/Soul artist J. Holiday.

The Derby Brunch hosted by Sherlene Shanklin is from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Some of Louisville’s top artists will open for Holiday. Ade’, Sheryl Rouse and Junior J will perform some of Wonder’s greatest hits. The Youth Repertory Theater Troupe will showcase their talents after LCCC’s leadership and performing arts department prepared a curriculum giving the youth a history and music lesson on the humble beginnings of Stevie Wonder. The youth studied the multi-Grammy Award winning artist and his long span career in the entertainment industry.

The Travel Channel and The Cooking Channel will highlight the Louisville chef and his restaurant

(Louisville, KY) This weekend not one but two national outlets will be in Louisville shooting segments for their television programs. Superchefs owned by Darnell “Superchef” Ferguson will be highlighted in both shows.

The Cooking Channel will visit the 1702 Bardstown Road restaurant sometime over the weekend of April 21^st. Their focus will be on great breakfasts.

The Travel Channel will also venue the poplar eatery to highlight their menu.

We are not allowed to release any additional information at this time but we wanted to release that the two highly rated programs will be in the City of Louisville in the coming week. The original Bad Boy for Life Sean Combs aka Diddy does Derby? This is not his first visit to the Bluegrass but it will be the media mogul will do his first public party. It’s The Trifecta Celebrity After Party hosted by Diddy at the Louisville Palace, right in the heart of downtown Louisville on Fourth Street. The event will take place on Oaks Night, Friday, May 4^th. It will start as soon as former NBA star turned entrepreneur Junior Bridgeman’s Trifecta Gala held at the Omni Hotel begins to wrap up.

diddy-tix Now with Diddy, the “trifecta” is now complete when it comes to the originators in the entertainment industry for Bridgeman’s gala. The artist performing at the gala is none other than Stevie Wonder,. The multi-Grammy Award artist was discovered for his musical talent while singing and playing the harmonica as a young man visually impaired but he clearly gives his fans a vivid picture of imagination and creativity like his hit song “Ribbon in the Skies”.

Another originator who will emcee the event is comedian Arsenio Hall. He elevated late night talk shows helping young actors and artists catapulted their careers but his show was a platform for some of the biggest stars in entertainment from Prince, Eddie Murphy, George Lopez to Paula Abdul just a name a few of the many guests on his show.

The VIPP Report: Roses are for the winners and Amber Rose is a sure bet when she comes to Louisville to host the biggest after-party on Derby night

(Louisville, KY) After the Run for the Roses and the Kentucky Derby celebrates the winner of the first leg of the triple crown. The celebration is far from over for the 144^th Kentucky Derby. The party heads to the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, (KCAAH) for The Run for the Roses and Rose’ hosted by none other than model, actress and talk show host Amber Rose.

The Season 23 Dancing with the Stars contestant will keep the party moving along with R&B singer-songwriter, dancer and actor Lloyd. His latest project is “Tru” based on experiences in life over the past few years. Lloyd is known for hits like “BedRock”, “You”, “Lay it Down” and “Cupid” just to name a few of hits.

This event will not be short on entertainment. There will be three rooms of entertainment. The heavy hitter DJ EFeezy will return to Louisville to DJ the experience. The VIPP Report: Civil rights leader honored with a street signing dedication

There will be a community celebration to honor civil rights activist Mattie Jones. On Wednesday, March 28th at 5 p.m. at the corner of Louis Coleman Jr. Drive and River Park Drive there will be a street sign dedication.

Councilwoman Cheri Bryant Hamilton of District 5 will join Jones and members of her family and friends will unveil an honorary sign on the block where she lives as a tribute to her accomplishments and efforts for advancing civil rights in Metro Louisville.

At the age of 84, Mattie continues to challenge people and issues that treat people of color in a negative light. You see her being interviewed by the media and protesting throughout the city but she has worked behind the scenes with civil rights leaders all across the United States but she supported her great friend the late Rev. Louis Coleman on a daily basis with issues and situations across Kentucky and parts of Southern Indiana. Their call to duty had no limitations on distance.

Mattie cared for over 100 children as a foster mother. She raised them right along with her eight children. Mattie will be 85 years old on the day of the celebration and dedication.

So on Wednesday, March 28th at 5 p.m. supporters of Mattie Jones will come out and support the mother to children who needed love, people who needed support and she’s the woman who stands up for what is right without even knowing your name.

Now, the public will have a chance to say thank you to the unsung leader who continuously chants for all people…No Justice, No Peace.

The VIPP Report: Hip-Hop/Rap Superstar Lil Wayne will travel to Louisville during Kentucky Derby week to headline Derby Soundstage 2018

(Louisville, KY) Kentucky Derby weekend draws a lot of stars to Louisville to enjoy not only the greatest two minutes in sports at the iconic home of the twin spires but the events surrounding the horse race. Derby Soundstage 2018 one of the biggest Derby events happening, will take place Thursday, May 3rd in Broadbent Arena.

Derby Soundstage 2018 will be hosted by DJ Envy, and will include performances from Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, K. Michelle. Cardi B was previously slated to perform, but has been removed from the lineup due to booking and scheduling conflicts with her Spring/Summer Festival Tour.

Derby Soundstage 2018 welcomes to the Derby City, Lil Wayne as the headliner. Everything the rapper, songwriter, record executive and entrepreneur touches turns platinum. The New Orleans native is the CEO of Young Money Entertainment. With artists like Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Christina Milian on the roster, Wayne is no stranger to selling out venues across the U.S. and Louisville will be no different.

He will share the stage that night with an artist that won a Grammy with him in 2017 for Best Rap Performance for “No Problem”. The Atlanta, Georgia rap star 2 Chainz will also be a part of the show. The rapper, executive, and song writer currently released “Pretty Girls Love Trap Music”, which is certified platinum.

Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz have released a multi-platinum joint album entitled “Collegrove”.

R & B sensation and reality show star K. Michelle will open the show. The Memphis native currently has a new album “The People I Used to Know” with hits like “Birthday” and “No Not You”.

The concert will be hosted by a member of the World’s Most Dangerous Morning Show, The Breakfast Club. DJ Envy will serve as the host and DJ of the concert. Envy is the co-host of the nationally syndicated four and half hour morning show along with Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God.

So, it’s Derby Soundstage 2018 featuring Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and K. Michelle hosted by DJ Envy on Thursday, May 3rd in Broadbent Arena in Louisville, Kentucky.

Tickets are on sale and they start at $70. You can purchase them through ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the show will begin at 7:00 pm. Refunds will be offered for those who no longer wish to attend the concert due to the change in the lineup.

The scramble will take place Monday, April 9th at Lake Forest Country Club. Registration will begin at 10:30 am sharp, and at 11:00 am Mayor Greg Fischer will kick-off the event with a welcome. Shortly after, those in attendance will have the unique opportunity to meet and greet former U of L and UK Legends, and other notable celebrities. There will be a 1:00 pm shotgun start.

We are receiving local and national Celebrity confirmations daily, and are happy to announce the following special guests joining Brown in attendance: Hall of Fame and former UofL Head Coach Denny Crum; 2000 Super Bowl Champion and former UofL star quarterback Chris Redman; 2013 NCAA Champions Russ Smith and Luke Hancock; UK basketball legend Jack “Goose” Givens; and NFL Super Bowl Champion and UK football star Jared Lorenzen, to name a few. Jamon Brown says “Anytime that I can get home and help my community that’s what I’m going to do. When you look at the statistics of homelessness in Louisville, many are my age or a little younger, and it causes me to stop and think that we all could be in that situation. So, if I can help just one person get back on track, we have accomplished our goal.”

Brown attended Fern Creek High School in Louisville, KY. He received a scholarship to the University of Louisville, and played football from 2011 to the 2014 season, under Coaches Charlie Strong and Bobby Petrino respectively. He was an offensive line starter on the 2013 Sugar Bowl Champion Team. Brown was then picked in the third round of the 2015 NFL draft by the St. Louis and now Los Angeles Rams. This past season, he started all 16 games as their right guard, helping to lead the way for 2017 NFL Offensive MVP, Todd Gurley.

(Louisville, KY) THE FLEUR DE FLEA, one of Louisville’s largest outdoor flea markets announces a new event where you can enjoy great food that will tickle your palette with a southern flair along with some great local entertainment. You are invited to come down to Waterfront Park in downtown Louisville for the inaugural FOODIE FLEA. The event will be held on Saturday, April 14^th from 11:00 am-5:00 pm and admission is FREE.

Then on Sunday, April 15^th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm many of the food trucks that participated in the FOODIE FLEA will park at various shelters throughout the city to feed the homeless as part of Mayor Greg Fischer’s “Give A Week”, a Week of Service where the community keeps a tally of their acts of compassion

The FOODIE FLEA, with over 25 of Louisville’s Finest Food trucks will be held in conjunction with THE FLEUR DE FLEA.

Three local craft breweries: Great Flood, Apocalypse and Country Boy will be sponsoring the event and serving their local beer all day.

(Louisville, KY) Mt. Olive has been a vital and a stable entity in the Smoketown neighborhood. On Sunday, February 25^th, Rev. Alex C. Shanklin and its members will celebrate their 118th Church Anniversary.

From their humble beginnings, as the founders of the church wanted to worship together gathered in a small house to presently in 2018, Mt. Olive is located on several acres on East Kentucky Street. They built the church and family life center. Then doing the impossible during difficult economic times, this congregation burned their mortgage when the loan was paid off. Mt. Olive has proven to be a leader in the growth of the community.

So, on Sunday, February 25^th, we invite you to celebrate the history of the church, its deep roots in the Smoketown community and their compassion to give back. This year’s theme says it all, “Love One Another,” from the scripture, I John 4:20-21.

Rev. Samuel L. Whitlow Jr., Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Louisville will be the guest minister and will preach the 11:00 am service. Jackell Jackson and Natasha Rudolph will serve as the Master and Mistress of Ceremonies for the morning service.

The VIPP Report: The Louisville Basketball Investment & Support Group is announced

Groundwork is being laid to help Louisville become NBA ready. NBA to Lou announced Thursday morning that Dan Issel, former NBA and ABA all-star and All-American at the University of Kentucky, will be president of the Louisville Basketball Investment and Support Group. The group created was in 2016 to explore the opportunity to bring an NBA franchise to Louisville.

In a news release, the group announced that more than 20 local investors have contributed a combined $750,000 in startup capital to support the initiative, referred to as “NBA 2 Louisville,” that will help make Louisville and the Commonwealth
of Kentucky NBA-ready. The $750,000 represents the first round of a $3 million private placement memorandum (PPM).

So, the organization’s primary role is to ensure Louisville and Kentucky are ready should there be an opportunity for an NBA expansion franchise or if an existing team expresses interest in relocating.

So, now I know that former NBA and ABA star and UK star Dan Issel is named president of the group.

The Louisville Basketball Investment and Support Group will collaboratively work to get a NBA franchise to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

This will be a significant move to get all parties invested in the idea of a NBA team if a new team Is developed or a current one would like to move.

The VIPP Report: A “Top” cooking competition show will move to Kentucky for Season 16

“Top Chef” announces they are setting up shop in Lexington, Kentucky and will visit several cities in the Commonwealth including Louisville

With four episodes still ahead for the hit show “Top Chef” are now going where it’s never gone before. Do you think that’s odd that they took distinguishable theme from “Star Trek”. Weird or is it? The science fiction television series’ main character was Captain Kirk played by Actor William Shatner. He currently lives in Versailles, Kentucky near Lexington on a horse farm he owns. So, it appears that Shatner and the show will be neighbors for a while.

“Top Chef” is heading to Lexington, Kentucky for Season 16. The show will have a new batch of cheftestants battle it out for the coveted title of Top Chef with the thriving culinary scenes of Louisville, Lexington, and Lake Cumberland serving as the backdrop. Plus, with the Bluegrass State’s culinary traditions of bourbon and barbecue, this is sure to be the tastiest season of Top Chef yet.

So you better believe we’re excited to see what awesomeness Kentucky brings to Top Chef in Season 16. “We are always looking for rising culinary destinations and are looking forward to planting our flag in Kentucky and soaking up a diverse region of the country that we haven’t yet explored on Top Chef,” Shari Levine, Executive Vice President, Current Production, Bravo Media, said in a statement. “Kentucky has a strong food identity and we know our incoming chefs will be inspired by the bourgeoning culinary scene, known for its innovative takes on Southern cuisine, melding flavors, and use of Kentucky’s agricultural bounty.”

With the looming question that many in Kentucky want to know can the state support a National Basketball Association, (NBA) team? The reason why I’m expanding the discussion from Louisville to the whole Commonwealth is because the players, (people involved) will have connections to both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky. I’ve figured out several names of the people involved but It can change and/or be updated by the time the public is made aware of their venture.

Remember, I said that there will be an announcement this week. We only have a couple of days left in the week so I anticipate something in the next day if not today. At the time of the announcement we will have the name(s) of the people involved which will create a collaborative team of influential people playing all the positions needed to be a real competitor in the game of having a professional team in Louisville.

Like in the Field of Dreams, we built the KFC Yum! Center so will they come or do they need another arena to make it happen? We are getting closer to that announcement where the talk will turn into negotiations. They still have a long way to go but this is now going to be moving forward instead of backwards.
