New Stage. A Renewed Legacy: Louisville Central Community Centers to Launch State-of-the-Art Grand Lyric Theater Through Family Arts Academy, Featuring The Curtis Family C-Notes  

LOUISVILLE, KY (August 2, 2026) — Louisville Central Community Centers, Inc. (LCCC) proudly announces the grand opening of the Grand Lyric Theater, marking a transformative cultural milestone in the heart of the Russell neighborhood. Located at 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Boulevard, the new venue represents the visionary redevelopment of

the historic Old Walnut Street campus—transforming a former industrial block into a vibrant community and cultural hub. The theater’s name honors the rich history of “Old Walnut Street,” a once-thriving African American commercial and cultural corridor impacted by 1960s urban renewal.

Event Highlights & Historic Opening

The Grand Lyric’s opening celebration will feature a “big impact week” of programs and events that bring together children, families, business and civic leaders, and cultural icons under a common banner of family and community development.  

Beyond the Ribbon: A Call to Action & Operational Sustainability

While the grand opening commemorates the successful completion of major capital development, LCCC is actively pivoting toward long-term operational sustainability. The organization is issuing a formal call-to-action for funding partners, stakeholders, performing artists, producers and community leaders to join a newly formed Operating Advisory

Group. This leadership collective will support the ongoing economic viability of the Grand Lyric Theater as a premier magnet for the arts and a catalyst for continued investment across West Louisville.

“This is more than a building; it is a renewed legacy,” states Dr. Kevin E. Fields, Sr., President and CEO of LCCC. “We are transitioning from an industrial past to a creative future, ensuring this theater serves as a stage for community empowerment for generations to come.”

Upcoming Cultural Programming: The Curtis Family C-Notes Residency

Building upon the momentum of its opening season, the Grand Lyric Theater is thrilled to announce an upcoming week-long residency featuring the acclaimed, San Francisco-based soul and funk family band The Curtis Family C-Notes (“C Fam”) from August 17 to August 22, 2026. Known for their vibrant multi-instrumental performances, appearances on America’s Got Talent (Season 16), and recognition as “The San Francisco First Family of Song,” the family group will headline a series of community events at LCCC.

The special week features:

Family Arts Camp (August 17 – 19): Engaging local youth and families in interactive workshops in creative arts, music programming, and entertainment industry essentials.

VIP Gala (August 20): Corporate and civic leaders will gather for a Midsummer Night’s Soirée, an exclusive evening of fine dining and entertainment, celebrating community partnership, arts education, and cultural enrichment.

Community Concert Series (August 21-22): Unforgettable live performances with the C-Notes and friends on the Grand

Lyric Theater stage showcasing their signature soul, funk, and R&B repertoire.

THE DEION BRANCH FOUNDATION GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY BY SUPPORTING FAMILIES THAT NEED A LITTLE ASSISTANCE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

(Louisville, KY) Two-time Super Bowl Champion & Super Bowl 39 MVP Deion Branch along with his foundation assisted 20 families in making the holiday season brighter for their children. Children had the opportunity to shop for clothes, toys, and gifts for loved ones at the Walmart on Standiford Plaza Drive.  To help them pick out their selections, players of the University of Louisville Football team played Santa’s helpers. 

Branch currently works as a staff member at his alma mater, University of Louisville.  Branch says, “It is so important to give back to those so support you, the fans.  That is why I always try to bring the guys out with me to show how important it is to the community.  To see these young people smile, run up and down the isles full of excitement makes my heart happy. You can see the relief in parents’ eyes that their children are going to be able to celebrate and go back to school with a story or two from their holiday break.  We definitely created memories and fans.” 

Youth participating in the shopping spree came from the Neighborhood House, Louisville Central Community Center Mini-Versity Child Development Center, and the West Louisville Performing Arts Academy. 

A special thank you to R&B Roofing and Remodeling who donated their time and a monetary gift to each child involved in the holiday spree. We also would like to thank the team at Walmart for being so accommodating as we took over the store and even had shoppers stopping to get photos with the team and Branch.   

Branch goes on to say, “The holiday season is challenging time for families, so I hope we were able to relieve some stress and in return remind the team that we are blessed.  We do not take anything or anyone for granted.  This was a community project, but it was a reminder that we all need to work as team.  When we do, we can win.”

The Cards will now focus on their bowl game which will be played on New Year’s Eve against Washington in the Sun Bowl.

The Deion Branch Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer support to children’s mental, physical, emotional wellbeing and for those who have been infected with meningitis.  The DBCF’s mission is to help with research and to find a cure to ease the struggle for children like Deion’s son.
